James started karting in 1999 at an indoor circuit in Aylesbury called Klub Kart Racing. In his first year of racing as a kadet, he came 4th in the Kadet Championship and was then Champion in 2000 and 2001, and Junior Champion in 2002.

In 2003 James started outdoor karting as a novice in the Junior Rotax class, which is a single cylinder water cooled 2 stroke engine, capable of speeds up to 70mph. In 2004, in his first full season, with the help and sponsorship of L&M International, James became Camberley Kart Club Junior Rotax 2004 Champion.

James is now looking forward to the 2005 season with the continuing support of L&M International. He will be racing in two club championships at Rye House in Hertfordshire and Rissington Kart Club in Gloucestershire.
